Chairman, Cameron McColl
A serial entrepreneur, Cameron set up McColl McGregor in 1989, Scotland’s first high technology call centre operation, which was acquired by Ivory & Sime plc in 1992. In 1993, he co-founded Memory Corporation plc, which listed on the AIM market in 1995, with Cameron serving as CEO until 1996. In 1994 he co-founded another call centre business, Telecom Service Centres as Chairman and Non-executive Director until 2003, when the business was sold, at which point it had over 2,000 employees throughout Scotland. In the past 15 years, Cameron has been a co-founder, investor and director of a number of successful companies, spanning the restaurant, yacht marina, technology, finance and property sectors.
Cameron has been a supporter of a number of public and private ventures designed to stimulate growth in the Scottish economy and is a founder member of both The Business Forum and The Entrepreneurial Exchange.
Chief Executive, Calum Innes
Qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor in 1986, Calum began his professional career as an Estate Factor. In 1992 he switched to commercial property, taking up a post with the Scottish Assessor. In 2000 he was recruited by the firm of CKD Finlayson Hughes to establish a commercial property department in its Perth office. Within two years he had created a vibrant business with a broad client base and on the firm’s merger with Cluttons (Scotland) in 2003 to form CKD Galbraith LLP, Calum joined as an equity partner. Commercial property continues to underpin this business with approximately £500 million of commercial assets under management. In 2005 he was elected by the membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors to sit on their International Governing Council. In addition to his professional career, Calum has various property interests.
Chief Operating Officer, John Flavell Smith
John has enjoyed an international career working in the oil exploration industry. Following graduation in 1981, he joined Digicon in Singapore as a Geophysicist. When the company started its Indonesian operations he transferred to Jakarta, where he was responsible for recruiting and training a team of local scientists. In 1985 he joined GECO in New Zealand with responsibility for sales and marketing of GECO NZ’s services. Following the acquisition of GECO by Schlumberger in 1986 John completed an MBA and went on to hold a number of senior management positions within the Schlumberger group. In 1996, John and a former colleague from Schlumberger co-founded Vibtech to develop a land seismic recording system.Vibtech was sold in 2006 to Sercel of France, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the CGGVeritas Group, the market leader in geophysical instrumentation, in what was one of the largest technology deals in Scotland during 2006.
Financial Director, Ken Brown
For the 12 years following qualification as a CA with KPMG, Ken held appointments at Chief Accountant or Group FD level in the construction, building materials and engineering sectors, where in addition to his operational roles, he was responsible for business restructuring and pension scheme reconstruction. In 1994 he joined loss-making Eclipse BIinds plc, as part of a turn-around team. Having restored it to financial health in 1995, the management team embarked on an ambitious growth plan, acquiring companies in US, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe, with Ken involved in M&A activity, shareholder relations and Company raising. In 1999, the group was acquired, producing excellent shareholder returns. From 1999 until 2007, Ken was Group FD at Kenmore Property Group, which grew during this time at a compound rate over 40% p.a., with its portfolio growing from £40m to £1.9bn and business operations being established in continental Europe, Scandinavia and the Middle East. Ken was responsible for corporate acquisitions and disposals, creating new funds, negotiating JVs, and entering new international markets, and played a central role in listing 20% of the business on the London Stock Exchange in 2006, raising £140 million in new equity.
Non-executive Director, Rt Hon Brian Wilson
Rt Hon. Brian Wilson is a former Labour MP who held five ministerial posts between 1997- and 2005. He was UK Energy Minister from 2001-03 and strongly supported the expansion of renewable energy. He also acted as the Prime Minister's Special Representative on Overseas Trade. Since leaving politics in 2005, he has continued to take a close interest in the energy sector. In addition to his work in the private sector, he is a Privy Councillor, a Visiting Professor at Glasgow Caledonian University, chairman of Harris Tweed Hebrides and a director of Celtic Football Club.
Non-executive Director, Tim Kirkwood
Tim was the resident managing agent for two high profile and successful Scottish estates for ten years prior to 1992 when he was recruited by the Chartered Surveying firm of Finlayson Hughes as their managing partner.
In this role he rationalised the business and orchestrated its growth in overseeing the acquisition of a substantive part of Clegg Kennedy Drew in the mid 1990s and the merger of the firm with Cluttons Scotland in 2003 to form CKD Galbraith LLP with Tim as its Chief Executive. This firm currently has nine offices in Scotland, a sister business in London and a staff of 140. The business manages £1.5billion of property assets together with providing asset management, professional and agency advice to a wide range of private and public sector customers. In addition to Tim’s professional career he has been co-founder of a salmon processing company which he chaired from inception to successful sale within two years and holds a number of Trustee and non executive roles.
